With strengths in tissue biology, bioengineering and regenerative medicine, the cluster links multidisciplinary research to biomedical imaging and artificial intelligence.
The cluster is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the convergence of multi-modal, multi-scale biomedical imaging data and AI, which require complementary expertise in computer science, medicine, mathematics and statistics, physics and engineering. We draw from UBC’s critical mass of highly impactful researchers in biomedical imaging (BMI) and AI, across the Faculties of Applied Science, Medicine, Science and UBC-affiliated hospitals and the BC Cancer Agency.
Over the long term, we hope to change practice in BMI and associated AI techniques, impact clinical practice, and mobilize our breakthroughs via licensing and spin-offs.
